'The Voice' Drama: Blake Shelton Says He & Adam Levine Are 'At Each Other's Throats'

Blake Shelton is opening up about his relationship with Adam Levine and revealing that the banter we see between the two coaches on The Voice is very much real – often to the point where the real-life friends actually fall out off set. Getting candid about his and Adam’s friendship in a new interview with The Tennessean, Shelton confessed that he and Levine really do get mad at each other when things get competitive on The Voice, even calling their relationship “explosive.” “We are constantly at each other’s throats, and sometimes we really do get mad at each other,” Blake admitted of how The Voice affects his friendship with Adam. “We’re those two guys you knew in high school where we have this bond that is unexplainable. It brings out the best and worst in both of us,” Blake continued. “It truly is an explosive relationship.” And after 12 seasons and six years sitting alongside each other on the NBC show, Shelton admitted that the Maroon 5 frontman has learned all the tricks of the trade when it comes to how to wind each other up. Shelton joked to the outlet that Levine knows exactly how to “drive [him] crazy” while he’s learned over the past few years “every trick to get under his skin” and rile him up as the cameras roll, which included Blake throwing on a blond wig to mock Adam’s bleach blond hair earlier this season. Blake Shelton’s confessions about his and Levine’s “explosive” friendship comes shortly after Adam Levine revealed that the incredibly close bonds he’s made during his time on The Voice have been his favorite thing about being on the show for so long. “The most memorable thing about having been on the show for so long is the friendships that I’ve forged and the people that I’ve gotten to know really well and been really lucky enough to get close with,” Adam recently told Hollywood Outbreak when asked about his most memorable moment from being on The Voice for the past six years, referring to his friendship with Blake. “Feeling like you have a community of people who do what you do and understand the life that you lead is a really comforting thing,” Adam continued of sitting alongside Blake and the constantly revolving door of co-coaches who come and go from The Voice from season to season. The twosome’s sweet confessions about their close friendship comes shortly after NBC confirmed that neither of the mainstay coaches won’t be going anywhere anytime soon as producers revealed that both Shelton and Levine would be sticking around until at least the end of Season 14. Confirming the upcoming coaching line-ups last week, NBC announced that Adam and Blake will be joined by Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson for Season 13 in the second half of 2018 while Shelton and Levine will then return alongside Kelly Clarkson and another coach who’s yet to be announced for Season 14 in early 2018. But before the next rounds begin, Levine and Shelton have a big battle on their hands ahead of next week’s Season 12 finale, as Adam, Blake and fellow coach Alicia Keys all have contestants left battling it out for the big win on May 22 and May 23.
